Polynucleotides: an innovative treatment for combating signs of skin aging
As a dermatologist, I’m particularly fond of treatments that actively stimulate the skin—whether that’s through injectables like Profhilo and Sculptra (the so-called biostimulators), or devices such as Morpheus8. Interest in products that genuinely activate the skin’s natural processes is growing rapidly. That’s a welcome development, as it’s driving a surge in scientific research and regularly bringing new products and technologies to the market.
A relatively new group of biostimulators is based on polynucleotides, marketed under names like Juvenus, PhilArt, or PolyPhil. These are substances with unique biochemical properties that help improve skin elasticity and are effective against various signs of aging, such as wrinkles, loss of firmness, and a dull or uneven skin tone.

How do polynucleotides work?
Depending on the desires and possibilities, a plan is devised. For “normal” skin, more focus will be on prevention, and typically, 3 treatments with approximately 3 weeks between each session will suffice. We use 2 ml per area, or 3 ml for the face including the forehead. However, mature skin often requires four treatments initially. Subsequent treatments can then be adjusted based on your preferences and clinical assessment, usually occurring every 3-4 months. Specific protocols exist for treating delicate areas like around the eyes or addressing scars and stretch marks; we’ll discuss these before beginning your treatment journey.
As with any injectable procedure, there might be minor swelling or bruising. However, you can usually resume your daily activities immediately as camouflage makeup can be applied the day after treatment.
