What is stress incontinence?

Stress incontinence, or exertion incontinence, is the most common form of involuntary urine leakage. It occurs at moments of increased abdominal pressure, such as laughing, sneezing, coughing and exercising. Stress incontinence can occur at any age. It is common among young women, particularly young mothers, but also later in life, for example after the menopause.

What treatment options are there for stress incontinence?

1

Pelvic floor physiotherapy

This therapy aims to strengthen the pelvic floor muscles and teach you to use them consciously. This can slightly reduce urine leakage when coughing or laughing.
2

Surgical treatment

During this operation, a tape is placed beneath the urethra to support it. For the first four weeks after the operation, you cannot exercise, lift heavy objects or have intercourse. In 85% of women, urine leakage is fully resolved after this procedure. In 10%, symptoms improve but do not disappear completely. In 5% of women, the operation does not help.
3

Laser treatment

For mild to moderate complaints, laser treatment of the vaginal wall is a good option. A vaginal laser treatment (fractional CO2 laser) can strengthen the vaginal wall. The laser stimulates the mucous membranes and underlying connective tissue of the vagina, firming it up. There is already extensive experience with vaginal laser treatment elsewhere in the world, along with a number of scientific publications on how the laser works.

Who is the treatment suitable for?

The treatment is suitable for women with mild stress incontinence.

How does the laser treatment work?

FemiLift gives the urethra more support, thickens the vaginal wall and strengthens the pelvic floor. The treatment relieves the symptoms of stress incontinence and can even resolve the problem entirely. Because FemiLift strengthens, firms and hydrates the vaginal wall, it also reduces the feeling of heaviness and makes the vagina firmer. Women who have been through the menopause also notice less vaginal dryness, fewer recurring infections and less pain during intercourse.

What does the procedure involve?

The treatment takes around 15 minutes, is carried out at the outpatient clinic and is virtually painless. Usually three treatments are needed, each spaced four to six weeks apart. After that, one treatment a year is needed to maintain the effect.

Hygiene

Willeke Kamphof uses the FemiLift laser. This laser uses a sleeve that is placed over the probe. This sleeve becomes the property of the patient and can be reused at every treatment. This guarantees optimal hygiene.

How long is the recovery period?

You can resume your normal activities immediately after treatment. For the first three days, it is advisable to avoid sexual contact (penetration).

What is the result?

After treatment, 80 to 85% of women notice a reduction in their symptoms, or find that their symptoms have disappeared entirely.

Are there any risks or side effects to the treatment?

The risks are minimal. No complications have been reported. The laser beam penetrates around 0.5 mm into the vaginal skin, deep enough to reach the layer of skin where new collagen is formed, but not so deep that other organs could be damaged.

How long does the result of the treatment last?

After the first three treatments, one treatment a year is needed to maintain the effect, as the ageing process naturally continues.

First treatment including sleeve € 775

I was quite anxious about the treatment (Femilift) for stress incontinence, but it turned out to be far easier than I expected, barely uncomfortable, and the doctor's approach was really reassuring. I've now had two treatments and am already seeing very good results.

Wendy - September 2019Excellent treatment

Willeke is friendly, honest and straight to the point, excellent. The treatment meets expectations. Definitely recommended.

Femilift for stress incontinence. Symptom free after three treatments. Genuinely brilliant. I would never have thought such an easy treatment could achieve such a result.

D - January 2019My experience with Femilift for stress incontinence

Willeke charges a fair price for a Femilift treatment. I've now had a follow up treatment, and after a long time I can say that Femilift has improved my incontinence to the point that I don't want surgery, at least not yet. I trust Femilift more than a synthetic sling in my body. I still can't go running, but everyday activities are much easier to manage dry thanks to Femilift. It isn't true that the treatment is painless (as the manufacturer claims). It also depends on the numbing spray you can ask for. This time there wasn't quite enough time between applying the spray (which was also a bit too superficial this time) and the treatment, so it was more painful than previous times. It's worth taking more time so the numbing can work properly.

Anonymous - July 2020Femilift has been worthwhile for me. Symptoms not 100% gone, but greatly improved.

Wonderful. Also for younger women who have given birth. For me it was a genuinely quick solution to my symptoms. I had mild urine leakage, especially with a strong sneeze but also things like jumping on a trampoline. I always had to factor my symptoms into what I did. I would definitely recommend it. A lovely quick solution.

Danielle - November 2018My experience with Femilift for urine leakage

Incontinent for ten years, and now after two treatments I no longer need a pad for everyday activities. A genuinely positive breakthrough for me personally. I was very sceptical and cautious, but after a lot of searching online (there's a lot of information on American sites about Femilift) I took the step, and I really wonder why this treatment is still so little known. Several gynaecologists told me a TVT sling was my only option, but I didn't want synthetic material in my body, having heard too many unpleasant stories about it, and recovery from surgery takes a long time. I'm going for a third treatment soon. Although coughing and sneezing are already 'dry' now, I still need to wait a few weeks for the final result, since things keep improving in the weeks after treatment. After the first treatment it took two weeks before I really noticed the first results. I'm genuinely amazed by the impact and the result. I don't expect a 100% dry result, but I no longer experience urine leakage during my everyday activities. I can bend down, make the bed, carry shopping bags, move more freely and walk a bit faster again, even jog a short stretch to catch the train without leaking. Running is still off the table for now. But honestly, this has already been well worth it for me. The treatment is manageable. Ask for some numbing cream, it helps. Afterwards you'll spot for a while, about a week after the first time, a bit shorter after the second treatment. My incontinence wasn't mild, I leaked during everyday activities, not just when exercising or coughing, so I didn't hold out much hope. But for me, surgery is definitely off the table now.

Anonymous - November 2018This treatment (Femilift) deserves to be far better known

I found the treatment by Willeke Kamphof extremely skilled and friendly. Highly recommended.

I would have needed surgery for my urine leakage, which would have meant being out of action for six weeks. I don't understand why no GP seems to know that three (painless) laser treatments can sort this out too.

Marjella - August 2018Review of Femilift for urine leakage

I'd read about this treatment in Linda magazine. I specifically had the treatment to improve the quality of my sex life. My vagina had become quite loose after giving birth to my children. The treatment has made a real difference for me. My vagina feels tighter and is much more sensitive during sex.

Linda - August 2018My experience with Femilift

The feeling of heaviness had already improved after just one session. Cycling and walking are much more comfortable. I'm hoping it lasts.

Loes - January 2019My experience with Femilift

Very customer friendly, knowledgeable, and I was seen quickly. Covid measures are well handled in the practice.

Anonymous - July 2020Excellent

Willeke is very knowledgeable and friendly, explained everything clearly and carried out the treatment with great care, pausing whenever it got a little too uncomfortable. The whole treatment took about 15 minutes. The result after just one treatment is genuinely fantastic. No more soreness after sex, more natural lubrication, an overall better feeling. I wish I'd done it years ago. I've since had my second treatment too, which was barely uncomfortable at all. I'm very pleased.

Anonymous - November 2019Femilift treatment with a fantastic result

Willeke is a true professional. What I appreciate most is her honesty and the way she puts you at ease.

Anonymous - November 2019Review of Femilift

Although the phone isn't always answered straight away in person, you're always called back as soon as possible. The same goes for texts and emails, again as soon as possible. There's clear knowledge and expertise, and it shows. Customer friendliness gets a ten out of ten, you always feel welcome. During the treatment you're checked on to see how things are going and whether you're still comfortable, and they take that into account. A bit of chat to take your mind off things helps too. Genuinely brilliant. There's a good explanation and plenty of opportunity to ask questions. The personal service is excellent. If you explain your personal or financial situation, they try to find a solution together and offer options where possible. In short, brilliant. Truly recommended on every front. I hope you keep doing this for a long time, Willeke.

Anonymous - October 2019Review of Femilift at Willeke Kamphof

The treatment is manageable but not painless. Thankfully it's a short treatment. A painkiller beforehand is worth taking. I already had good results after just one treatment.

I'm very pleased with the Femilift treatment by Willeke Kamphof. After two sessions the urine leakage was gone and I can jump again without leaking. Willeke is knowledgeable and knows how to help you relax, before you know it it's over. The treatment is painless and comes highly recommended.
