Morpheus8: microneedling with radiofrequency energy
Morpheus8 is a skin rejuvenation treatment that combines microneedling with radiofrequency (RF) energy. It is similar to standard microneedling, but instead of only puncturing the skin with fine needles, the device also delivers radiofrequency energy. Because the needles of the Morpheus8 penetrate much deeper and are combined with RF, Morpheus8 delivers superior results compared with traditional microneedling treatments. This technique allows us to improve the skin of the face, the neck and the rest of the body.
Morpheus8 uses very fine needles and radiofrequency energy (heat). The tiny needles penetrate deep into the layers of the skin and, where indicated, even into the fatty tissue. RF energy is delivered deep into the skin through the needles. This process creates very small wounds, which trigger the body’s natural healing response. Large amounts of collagen and elastin are produced and cell renewal is accelerated. This remodels and firms the skin. The radiofrequency energy heats the tissue in a controlled way, stimulating collagen and elastin even further. The result is a natural anti-ageing process: a more even skin, improved texture and firmness. In short, a younger looking skin.
When is Morpheus8 suitable?
Morpheus8 is an excellent treatment for rejuvenating and firming the skin: the neck, a sagging jawline and, as many will recognise, the jowls. Even the thin skin under the eyes can be treated successfully. The device is also widely used to correct uneven skin, fine or deeper wrinkles, enlarged pores and similar concerns. Good results can also be achieved on loose skin on the abdomen, upper arms or thighs. Stretch marks respond well too. They will not disappear, but a marked improvement is achievable.
Morpheus8 is also very effective for scars, both acne scars and scars from surgery, for example.

What does the treatment involve?
Before the treatment, the skin is numbed with an anaesthetic cream, which takes around one hour. This anaesthetic cream is only available on prescription; only a doctor is permitted to order it. The reason I always use anaesthetic is that my Morpheus8 is set to full power. It is precisely that power that produces the result. If a Morpheus8 treatment is well tolerated without anaesthetic, the settings are so low that very little is actually happening.
A special single-use sterile tip with needles is fitted to the Morpheus8 handpiece. The needle depth and the amount of RF energy are set according to the area being treated. The needles and the radiofrequency energy penetrate the skin, creating tiny channels. Your skin will feel red and warm after the treatment, and this can last a few days. Because tiny channels are made in the skin, small crusts can sometimes form afterwards, and small bruises may appear near the eyes, but these usually disappear quickly. Tiny needle marks may also be visible for a few days. After treatment of the abdomen or legs these marks can remain visible for a few weeks, but they eventually disappear completely.
Immediately after the treatment you may feel like cooling the skin, but I advise against it: the heat is a large part of the treatment and is what produces the effect. You may apply a hydrophilic cream. Avoid rich, greasy creams during the first week after treatment to prevent small spots. After one to two days you can use a camouflage cream if you wish; we will discuss which products are suitable. Three treatments, spaced four to six weeks apart, are needed for the best result.
Results
The effect of the treatment is “permanent”, but the natural ageing process of course continues. Collagen will decline again over the years, and the skin can begin to sag once more. To stay ahead of the ageing process, you could choose to have a Morpheus8 treatment once a year.
