SkinPen – Medical Microneedling

Over the past few years, I have treated numerous clients with microneedling (also known as Collagen Induction Therapy), resulting in significant improvements in their skin. A distinguishing feature of the SkinPen is its FDA approval. The FDA, or Food and Drug Administration, is the federal agency in the United States responsible for ensuring the quality of food and drugs. The SkinPen is the world’s first and only FDA-approved medical microneedling system, specifically cleared for safely and effectively treating acne scars.

How medical Microneedling works

Medical microneedling involves tiny, sterile needles that vibrate into the skin, creating small channels. In addition to treating acne scars, SkinPen treatments effectively firm and smooth the skin by stimulating fibroblasts to produce collagen and elastin. This process also reduces or eliminates fine lines and refines pores.

A treatment with the SkinPen significantly improves skin quality. The needles of the SkinPen are made of surgical steel, which is harder and smoother than those in other microneedling systems. This reduces the risk of pigmentation, making SkinPen microneedling safe year-round for all skin types, including darker skin tones. Another crucial feature of the SkinPen is its precise needle depth control; once a depth of 1mm is set, it remains consistent throughout the treatment, unlike many other devices.

How a SkinPen treatment works

During a SkinPen treatment, a gel called Skinfuse Lift is applied to the skin. This lightweight gel allows the SkinPen to move smoothly over the skin without friction or abrasion. Skinfuse Lift consists only of ingredients safe for skin insertion. The SkinPen creates thousands of microchannels in the skin during treatment, initiating the natural healing process to stimulate collagen production. Proper post-treatment care of these microchannels is essential to prevent inflammation.

After the treatment

Depending on the treated area and treatment intensity, the skin may appear slightly red and feel warm or tingly immediately after the procedure. This sensation typically diminishes within a few hours. The recovery period is short. After treatment, in addition to Skinfuse Lift, you will receive a second post-care product: the Rescue Calming Complex. This product replenishes lost moisture, promotes healing, and soothes the skin.

Expected results and treatment frequency

Following treatment, your skin begins intensive internal healing. Initially, collagen type 3 is produced, which later converts to collagen type 1 over a few months, ensuring long-lasting benefits from the procedure. For optimal results, a series of 4 to 6 treatments at 4-week intervals is recommended.
